Mobile Police now releasing the name of a man whose body was found in Dog River.

Police say the victim was 39 year old Adran Portis.

They did not release details about how Portis may have died, saying only that the investigation is ongoing.

Police say the body of a man was found shortly before 6:30 Monday night in the area of Dog River waterway in the 1500 block of West Martin Drive.

Adran Portis

72 hours later, we have our first answer in the case: who was killed.

Larry Walker said he lived next door to Portis.

He said, "It's very horrible for something like this to happen."

Walker says he would see Portis, but not recently.

He said, "The last time I saw him was like about, what, a little over a couple of weeks ago, maybe."

As for what he knew about Portis, Walker said, "As far as I know, I didn't know him that well, just from being around here in the neighborhood and just staying next door, but he was a pretty good fellow that I knew of. But anything else, I don't know nothing about outside that led to whatever happened. I hope they do find whoever did it though."

FOX10 News reported Monday night that someone on a kayak called 911 to report the discovery and a Mobile Police dive team removed the body.

A neighbor at that time told us an investigator said it appeared the body had been in the water for some time.
