PRICHARD, Ala. -- A Prichard family is searching for answers after one of their family members was shot and killed nearly a week ago.
Prichard Police Lt. Robert Martin has confirmed the victim is Xydarius Harrison. According to Martin, Harrison was in his early 20s.
Martin says the shooting happened during an apparent robbery in the 100 block of Peterson Road. That's off Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Martin says a male suspect tried to rob Harrison and his brother, Xavier Harrison, Saturday night. In an attempt to get away, Martin said, Xydarius tried to run but was shot by the suspect.
Martin said Xydarius' brother had a "tussle" with the alleged gunman and was able to run away until he made it to a nearby grocery store. That's where Xavier was able to get the attention of police and tell them about the robbery, according to Martin.
According to Martin, police went back to Peterson Road but didn't see anything. Martin said police then were notified that there was a male subject on a nearby porch with an apparent gunshot wound. That male was Xydarius. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to Martin, Xavier was taken to a local hospital to be checked out for injuries. He was later discharged.
Right now, Prichard police don't know a motive for the robbery and don't have a named suspect. It's also unclear if the suspect knew the brothers.
According to Martin, the vehicle the brothers were in was stolen but recovered by police days later. The vehicle is now being processed for evidence and fingerprints that they're hoping will lead them to an arrest.
Meantime, family and close friends are expected to gather Friday afternoon to remember the life of Xydarius as he's laid to rest at Hodge's Chapel.
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, from 9 until 11 a.m., at Antioch Baptist Church, 350 Chandler St. in Prichard.
The Prichard Police Department and the Mobile County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate the homicide and are asking anyone with information to contact them right away.
