MOBILE, Ala. -- According to Public Safety Director James Barber, the teen accused of shooting a Mobile police officer is believed to have gotten a ride from a stranger and traveled back near the original crime scene.

Police took 18-year-old Dajoune Devon DuBose into custody Friday night in connection to the shooting of an officer which took place shortly before 7 p.m. on November 9 in the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market at the intersection of Cottage Hill Road and Hillcrest Road.

We're told DuBose may have paid the stranger for a ride.

They say DuBose was believed to be driving a stolen vehicle and when the officer attempted to pull him over, the teen opened fire, striking the officer in the arm.

Barber told FOX10 News that police, as well as family members of the teen, were all in contact with DuBose in an attempt to get him to surrender.

DuBose was taken into custody shortly before 10 p.m.

He was subsequently booked at Mobile County Metro Jail, where he was being held Saturday on charges of attempted murder and first-degree receiving stolen property.
