Saraland residents are flocking to the Public Works Building on Saraland Blvd. to load up on sandbags before this weekend's potential storm.

The resource is free to anyone with a valid Saraland address.

Public Works crews prepared hundreds and hundreds of sandbags but residents are not allowed to leave with more than 15 bags.

Plenty of people who drove by the facility left with the maximum.

A long-term resident named Pam requested 15 bags to help protect her air condition unit.

"I've got bricks underneath it supporting it now and I just can't afford for that water to go up underneath that concrete and for it to cave in like that because I have no one to help me, and I couldn't hold it up if I tried. So i'm just going to put these sandbags around it to protect it and pray," Pam said.

A large number of Saraland residents say this is their first time taking advantage of the sandbag service.

Public Works crews plan to pass out sandbags again on Friday, May 25th from 9 a.m. To 3 p.m.

Be sure to bring a valid I.D. with you.
