It’s the perfect day to head to the beach, and while you’re at it, put your sandcastle building skills to the test.
FOX10 News went back to school today—Sandcastle University that is—to learn the secrets behind the perfect sandcastle.
Janel Hawkins is Gulf Shores’ very own sand sculptor, who’s built 14 foot sculptures out of sand like the NCAA and ESPN logos for the last three years for the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships.
She’s also put her talents to good use by teaching tourists and locals alike how to build the sandcastle of their dreams.
She says most of her clients are surprised to know the secret is lots and lots of water.
“Most of them just can’t believe they’ve been making sandcastles wrong their whole life, and can’t believe its not only super easy, but you don’t need to buy any fancy tools, its always something that’s going to be in your junk drawer, in your kitchen, in your garage,” said Hawkins.
Hawkins will be building this year’s NCAA tournament sculpture here in Gulf Shores again in just about a week.
You can stop by then and see her work, or click here for more information.
