MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -- Mobile police responded to a local elementary school last week after a student brought a gun to campus, according to police.

It was at about 11:55 a.m. Thursday, May 9, when police responded to Morningside Elementary School at 2700 Greenbrier Drive South in reference to a student with a gun.

According to officials with the Mobile County Public School System, another student told the teacher that the kid had a gun. After checking the student's book bag and finding an unloaded gun, the teacher took the student to the office where school officials contacted the police.

Upon arrival, police said, an officer was directed by school administration to the student.

The 10-year-old boy was transported to Strickland Youth Center, police said.
