Both lanes of traffic are now open

Initial reports from authorities said the driver had died in the accident on I-10 near Exit 13, Theodore Dawes Road  Alabama State troopers say the driver in the accident did not die in the crash and is in critical condition at an area hospital.


Original Story:

A accident on Interstate 10 eastbound has traffic backed up near Exit 13, Theodore Dawes Road. 

According to Alabama State Troopers the accident was caused by a wrong way driver in a SUV on eastbound I-10  when the SUV struck an 18 wheeler head on

Authorities have been working an accident involving an 18 wheeler in that area since about 3 a.m. Friday.

​Eastbound traffic is blocked between Grand Bay and Theodore Dawes Road.   It is clear after Theodore Dawes. and is being rerouted to Highway 90

​Westbound traffic is heavy just after the Theodore Dawes exit.  

​Drivers asked to take alternate routes to work if possible
