The Mobile Police Department Narcotics and Vice Unit conducted an undercover prostitution operation Friday, September 7.

According to police, citywide, officers made 16 arrests, one of which was a ancillary arrest.

Police say the purpose of the operation was in an effort to curtail the street-level crime of prostitution that is often linked to other violent crimes.

An example given was that a prostitute may be used to attract men so they can be robbed or assaulted by the prostitute’s cohorts. Or, the prostitutes become the victims of crimes committed against them by their patrons.
