(Meredith) -- A California man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to kill his former landlord, but only after leading local police on a short chase.
Riverside police were called to a residence to investigate a reported assault on the 6th of December. According to police reports, the 83-year-old victim had been chocked and battered by a former tenant and acquaintance.
The report also stated that the former tenant entered the victims home illegally to steal an automobile belonging to the landlord.
The landlord identified his former tenant, 27-year-old Paul Stephen Otto of Riverside County, as the person who assaulted him. The landlord was treated for his injuries on the scene.
Police reports state Otto fled the scene in his own car but was later seen in front of the local police station, were the authorities tried to detain him. The suspected once again fled by car initiating a high-speed chase which caused a traffic accident, destroying his car.
Otto was taken into custody after being medically cleared at the hospital and is being held on $300,000 bail.
