(Meredith) -- A 66-year-old man was shot and killed as he rushed to protect his niece who was being sexually assaulted in their Chicago home, police said.
The uncle heard his 17-year-old niece screaming Thursday night and came into her bedroom, where he saw a man assaulting her, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Police said the suspect then shot the uncle in the head and back before running away from the home.
The uncle was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His niece went to Trinity Hospital and is in stable condition.
Officers later arrested the suspect, whose name has not yet been released.
According to ABC 7 Chicago, the suspect had entered the home through a window before the assault and subsequent shooting.
