(Meredith) -- Multiple police officers were injured in several cities, hours after George Floyd's death was ruled a homicide by two autopsies.

Among the injured officers, a sergeant with the New York Police Department was hit by a car so hard, the officer flipped sideways in the air.

The incident happened in the Bronx around 12:45 a.m. when the sergeant was responding to a call about looting. The driver of the vehicle slammed into the officer shortly after.

The officer is in stable, but serious condition after sustaining head and leg injuries.

It's unclear if the driver of the vehicle has been identified or arrested.
