The father of a 19-year-old girl killed in a traffic accident in Mobile said his daughter lived making her dreams come true.

Authorities say Brittany Cleaver died when her car hit a utility pole on I-10 near Rangeline Road on June 26.

She left behind a seven-week-old daughter. Sunday, July 8, friends held a benefit for Brittany's family to pay for funeral expenses and establish a savings account for her daughter.

Brittany Cleaver's father, Richard, said his daughter had just become the mother of a baby girl, Kennedy Mary Ann, seven weeks ago, and she was planning a bright future.

Richard Cleaver said, "She was a very awesome young woman. Not very many people 19 years old graduate college, take care of a baby, already had a job lined up. And she was going with what her dreams were and she was making them come true."

Cleaver also talked about a special moment he experienced at Brittany's funeral.

He said, "Virginia College, where she was going to school, they presented her diploma to us at the funeral."

Sunday, friends of Brittany's wore pink shirts and organized a benefit barbecue, raffle, and silent auction at Papa's Sports Bar in Saraland to help pay for funeral arrangements, and a savings account for Kennedy.

Tim Howell, who helped organize the fundraiser, said, "I lost a little sister years ago, so I can't imagine what this gentleman is going through."

Willa Bridgers with Papa's Sports Bar said, "We didn't know her, but most of us have children or grandbabies and it was very sad: this beautiful young girl."

Cleaver said of Brittany, "She was never unhappy. She was always happy. We went through thousands of pictures and couldn't find not one picture that she was sad in."

Cleaver thanked everyone who helped put on the fundraiser and those who stopped by to help.

He knows the road ahead may be difficult.

Cleaver said, "My wife, she's still tore up about it. It's going to take a long time to heal from this one, but God's there with us and you've got to leave it in His Hands."

A Go Fund Me account has also been set up in Brittany Cleaver's name:
