The Yester Oaks Shopping Center in Mobile suffered damage as a line of strong storms moved through the area.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, what may have been a microburst brought intense winds to the area of Airport Boulevard at Interstate 65. Radar indicated a gust of 73 mph.

That was enough to blow out front windows of businesses in Yester Oaks. Sleep Center owner Nathan Nielson said his door was destroyed and several windows shattered. The store's delivery truck also lost its passenger side window.

But Nielsen was most surprised by an acorn.

"This is about 25 feet away from the front of the store here. And we got one little acorn here that managed to land right in the middle of the bed there," he said. "You can just kind of tell how powerful that wind was."

Sleep Center's next door neighbor, Cuisine of India, had it worse. All of the glass windows of the restaurant were blown out.

The high winds were also strong enough to cause a billboard in front of the shopping center to lean. A few small trees along the Airport Boulevard Service Road were also uprooted.
