Kati Weis has worked as a reporter for FOX10 News for almost five years. She became an Investigative Reporter in April 2016. In 2018, the Alabama Broadcaster’s Association (ABA) named Kati Reporter of the Year. That same year, the ABA also awarded Kati for Best Hard News Reporting, for her investigation titled Who’s Tracking You?, and honored Kati with a Judge’s Merit Award in the Documentary category for her work on the FOX10 News 30-minute special, Quest for Answers. She has also been recognized for Best Investigative Reporting two years in a row, in 2017 and 2018, by the ABA. Her 2018 winning investigative report was Toxic Release, which uncovered information about a dangerous chlorine gas leak in McIntosh. Because of her reporting, the McIntosh Police Department received respirators, so officers would be properly prepared for any future incidents, and an updated community notification system was put in place to better alert citizens the next time a gas leak occurs. Kati’s 2017 winning investigative story was Testing the Waters, which exposed that local school systems were not having their water supply tested for lead contamination. After her investigation, the State Department of Education announced it would help all school systems statewide to test for lead. Before coming to FOX10 News, Kati worked at WJHG Newschannel 7 in Panama City Beach, Fla., as a reporter and web producer. Kati also interned at six different television news stations in Ohio, New York, Alabama, and Spain. Kati is a graduate of Denison University, with a double major in Communication and Spanish. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. She grew up in the Mobile community, and is a proud alumna of St. Paul’s Episcopal School. Kati also serves as a board member for the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center’s Board of Directors. In her spare time, Kati enjoys dancing, going to the beach, and traveling. Kati sincerely enjoys reporting for the Gulf Coast, uncovering important issues her community otherwise may have not known anything about. She hopes her reporting will help generate positive change to improve lives on the Gulf Coast.
