Last week local wrestler, Gabe Warren, set the state and national record for most pins in a season with 69 -- and he's only a freshman.

"Make wrestling a life not a sport, a lifestyle.”

That's exactly what Warren does.

"It's the diet, it's the workout, it's the extra work after practice, it's the extra work before practice. I'll get up and run in the morning and after practice. I have my meals that I bring to school. I live around wrestling,” said Warren.

His hard work paid off this season.

"I actually looked around mid-January and realized Gabe had won 52 matches and had 52 pins and that's really unheard of, that never happens. So I was like wow I wonder what the record is and sure enough so I counted all of the matches and was like we are going to be close, this is going to be tight,” said J.T. Gosnell, Gabe’s wrestling coach.

It was a pin during the Quarterfinals of the AHSAA State Tournament that put Gabe in the record books.

The young wrestler has a bright future ahead.

“The future is bright. He has every opportunity to go out next year and be a State champion and hopefully be a three timer, wrestle in college. Everything is in front of him right now,” said Coach Gosnell.
