Father kills wife, shoots 3 children before being killed by JPSO deputies in River Ridge
RIVER RIDGE, La. (WVUE) - A 46-year-old man was killed by Jefferson Parish deputies early Saturday (Jan. 18) after allegedly opening fire on his family inside their River Ridge home.
The slain gunman was identified as Glenn Bohne Jr., the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s office said.
Sheriff Joe Lopinto said Bohne fatally shot his 40-year-old wife -- identified as Dung Pham -- and their 2-year-old toddler girl, Amy Bohne.
Two older daughters also were allegedly shot by Bohne. A 9-year-old girl was rushed to Children’s Hospital in critical condition, and a 13-year-old girl was shot in the ankle.
The oldest child hid and called 911 to bring deputies to the horrific scene around 4 a.m., Lopinto said, identifying her father as the gunman.
“I just listened to the 911 tape,” Lopinto said. “Hearing the child make that 911 call is pretty devastating right now, to be honest with you. ... Brave little girl.”
The incident occurred in a single-story home in the 10000 block of Stephen Drive, near Mary Lane.
Lopinto said that when deputies arrived and entered the house, they saw the dead bodies of the man’s wife and toddler in the hallway and found the two older daughters wounded.
“Our policemen continued into the house itself and encountered the father in a back bedroom,” Lopinto said. “He ended up producing a firearm at that time and our deputies fired upon him, striking and killing him inside the residence.”
Lopinto said it was unclear what prompted the man to open fire on his family.
“I don’t have the answers that you’re looking for, because I can’t imagine any answers to get us to this point,” Lopinto said. “But we’re certainly investigating.”
Lopinto said it was a “tragic situation” and investigators would look into “what brought it to this point,” but that it was not yet known whether the agency had any history of domestic violence calls from the home.
A social media post by Archbishop Chapelle High School identified the eighth-grade victim and said a prayer service would be held “on the day we return to school.” It asked the school community to “keep the Bohne family in your prayers during this difficult time.”
