New Orleans bids for 12th Super Bowl as competition intensifies
City leaders optimistic about landing another game in just over five years
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - City leaders are optimistic New Orleans will host another Super Bowl in just over five years, but competition is fierce and the city will have to step up its game to win the bid.
The NFL prefers new stadiums, and with new stadiums going up in Nashville and Washington D.C., there will be new competition for hosting Super Bowl games.
The state and the Saints spent $560 million to renovate the Superdome to land the 2025 game. City leaders say a new Omni hotel and nearly $1 billion in new hotel investment could be incentives to help the city land its 12th Super Bowl.
Vision for Superdome area taking shape

The vision for the area around the Dome is already taking place, according to Dome renovation architect Trey Trahan.
“We think about placing the dome in more of a park for the city that’s activated by restaurants, bars, and retail stores,” Trahan said in January 2025.
Michael Hecht, GNO Inc. infrastructure task force chair, said the plan is to lower the mezzanine so everything will be at street level.
“I think that only adds to our bid because the vision that Mrs. Benson and the state have is to create an entertainment complex and really take that to the next level,” Hecht said.
No specific plans have been outlined yet, but conversations are underway about what those redesign concepts could look like. The goal is to make the Dome area more accessible, especially around Champions Square, with added amenities.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell indicated the NFL looks forward to a 12th Super Bowl in New Orleans, but he did not indicate when that might happen. Next year, the game goes to Los Angeles and then Atlanta in 2028.
