US Department of War announces contract awarded to dismantle former USS Enterprise in Mobile

WASHINGTON, D.C (WALA) - The U.S. Department of War announced this past war the awarding of a contract to dismantle the former USS Enterprise in Mobile.
The announcement on the Department of War website said NorthStar Maritime Dismantlement Services LLC (Vernon, Vermont) won a $418,497,668 firm-fixed-price Navy contract to dismantle, recycle, and dispose of the former aircraft carrier ex-USS Enterprise (CVN-65), with work to be performed in Mobile, Alabama.
The ship will be dismantled entirely, with hazardous materials including low-level radioactive waste packaged and transported to licensed disposal sites; completion is expected by September 2030.
