Mobile County students return to school Monday morning

PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Thousands of Mobile County students returned to school Monday morning, with students at Robbins Elementary School in Prichard starting the day with breakfast before heading to class.

Students arrived with smiles on their faces as teachers and staff welcomed them back for the new school year.

Fourth-grader Carter Inge said he was happy to be back.

“I’m actually feeling good now. My favorite part about school is that we get to learn new stuff. We learn about science, and we get to play in PE,” Inge said.

Third-grade teacher Dewan Davis, now in her fourth year at the school, said the first week is critical for building relationships with students.

“It is very important. I believe that getting to know your students and creating that bond, they want to learn for you, for their parents. It just unlocks a whole other level of learning and teaching when you have that bond with your students,” Davis said.

When asked if he had advice for fellow students, Inge offered this: “Always be kind. Treat others how you want to be treated. Always follow directions.”
