MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Students in an introductory media class at the University of South Alabama got a closer look at how TV news works during a guest visit Tuesday.

Professor Parker’s Intro to Media class heard a presentation on the daily realities of local television news, including how stories are selected, written and produced, and the skills required to work as a reporter or anchor.

After the talk, several students stayed behind to ask follow-up questions to FOX10 News Anchor Lenise Ligon about internships, career paths in broadcast journalism and what it’s really like to work in a newsroom.

South Alabama’s journalism and communication program prepares students for careers in media and public relations. Majors learn to write, report and produce stories for broadcast, print and digital platforms, with the option to concentrate in broadcast or multimedia journalism.

The visit was aimed at encouraging future journalists to pursue storytelling that informs the public and makes a difference in their communities.
