Michigan Avenue, Broad Street intersection to close for roundabout construction

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The intersection of Michigan Avenue and Broad Street will close Monday, Nov. 2, as crews begin building a new roundabout near Mobile International Airport.

The Mobile Airport Authority said the closure will remain in place through March 22. The roundabout will serve as the airport’s main entrance.

Beginning Nov. 2:

• Michigan Avenue: Closed from south of Interstate 10 to Avenue I

• Broad Street: Closed west of 3rd Street

• Businesses east of Michigan Avenue: Access via the Duval Street or Broad Street exits from I-10

• Businesses south of Broad Street: Access via Perimeter Road and Dauphin Island Parkway

• Fixed Base Operators (FBOs): Access via the designated Perimeter Road detour to Michigan Avenue

The project is part of road upgrades planned before the new terminal opens next spring.

Officials said the dates and traffic patterns could change.
