Mobile Infirmary cuts ribbon on maternal-fetal telemedicine clinic
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Infirmary cut the ribbon on its new maternal-fetal telemedicine clinic.
The clinic was made possible by a partnership with UAB Medicine. It expands access for patients seeking advanced pregnancy care in the region.
Patients can now consult with UAB maternal fetal medicine specialists while also receiving care with their local OB-GYNs.
The clinic is for high-risk pregnancies. It also helps patients gain access to innovative ultrasound technology.
Susan Boudreaux, president of Mobile Infirmary, said: “This is a very special day. We are celebrating our collaboration with UAB for maternal fetal medicine. This is the clinic space for internal medicine residence that we share with our OB patients and have to see MFM specialists.”
Dr. Akila Subramamium, division director for maternal fetal medicine at UAB, said: “We are in the center of the state and we’ve been taking care of people across the state who are driving hours to come and see us and I think in the last few years we’ve really made an effort in outreach and to be able to bring maternal fetal medicine services that are just so hard and so scarce to find back to people in more remote communities.”
