Judge sets bail for 3 women charged with murder in Chin Street killing
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A judge on Wednesday set bail for three women charged with murdering a woman on Chin Street on Sunday.
Bail was set at $275,000 for Sierra Giles, and $100,000 apiece for Kendra Nettles and Terrilyn Williams.
Prosecutors allege that the women went to Chin Street to fight Khaliaka Meardry because she had cussed out Giles’ 12-year-old nephew. Prosecutors claim Williams handed a gun to Giles, who is her sister, and that Giles then shot Meardry. Prosecutors said they believe Giles also was the driver.
Court records indicate that Nettles gave police a full statement and that there were three witnesses.
An arraignment has been set for Tuesday for Nettles and Giles.
Williams waived her arraignment and will have a preliminary hearing on Feb. 28.
Police said officers responded to the 600 block of Chin Street just after 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. They discovered 44-year-old Khaliaka Meardry, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators said Meardry was engaged in a verbal dispute with three women. They said the altercation escalated when the woman physically assaulted Meardry with a blunt object.
One of the women shot Meardry, police said.
Giles, 37, Nettles, 32, and Williams, 35, were arrested and are charged with murder.

Police said this is an active homicide investigation, and no further details will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
