Mobile-born rapper HoneyKomb Brazy pleads guilty to federal gun charge

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A local rapper with a criminal record pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal gun charge stemming from a traffic stop in December.

Nahshon Terral Jones, who performs under the name HoneyKomb Brazy, admitted to being a felon in possession of a firearm. As part of the plea bargain, prosecutors and the defense agreed to jointly recommend a sentence between 2½ and 3½ years in prison. U.S. District Judge Kristi DuBose set sentencing for Oct. 25.

Law enforcement officers arrested Jones on Dec. 18 after a traffic stop in Creola. According to his written plea agreement, he was riding in a 2022 Cadillac Escalade that had tinted windows and lingered too lone in the passing lane of Interstate 65 near the General W.K. Wilson Bridge.

A Mobile County sheriff’s deputy who serves on a federal task force searched the vehicle and found a Smith and Wesson MP 15 AR pistol within immediate reach of where a bodyguard named Miguel Wayne Hall were sitting. Hall and the driver, Mason Demetrius Fuller, told investigators that they were providing security for Jones.

Hall pleaded guilty in May. Fuller has been recommended for the pretrial diversion program, which allows for the opportunity for the criminal charges to be dismissed if he complies with the terms of the probation-like program.

Jones, 29, has four prior felony convictions that make him ineligible to have firearms:

• Convictions for first-degree robbery and first-degree assault in June 2013 in Mobile County Circuit Court.
• A conviction for illegal possession of a firearm in Mobile County Circuit Court in July 2019.
• A conviction for first-degree possession of marijuana in Mobile County Circuit Court in 2021.

Jones and his relatives have been the target of violence in the past. In 2021, gunmen fired at the home of his grandparents on North Dr Thomas Avenue in the Happy Hill community. The gunfire caused an explosion that killed the couple, Tony and Leila Lewis, and damaged the next-door home.
